*****
We are proud to have achieved 4 leaf status
in the Audubon Societies rigorous eco rating program for environmentally friendly resorts and hotels.
We received our re-evaluation recently and are so proud to have been upgraded from a 3 leaf rating to a 4 leaf rating. We are one of only a dozen properties in NORTH AMERICA to have achieved this environmentally friendly rating. We have worked diligently over the last two years to implement unique and creative environmental goals and initiatives here at the Golden Arrow. We have come to understand that "going green" is not something you are ever finished doing. It is an evolution, an "ECO-lution if you will; and one that is continually changing with new technologies. We are committed to traveling the "green path", continuing our education & sustainable growth. We plan to continue finding more environmentally friendly ways to use the resources we have.

We were also pleased to learn that the coveted environmentally friendly 5th leaf is within our grasp. Only one other property in North America has earned the right to display all 5 green leaves. We pledge to work hard to earn our spot as the next hotel to achieve this goal.
We are also committed to our guest comfort & satisfaction. We pledge to find the right balance between luxury & sustainability. The Guest Experience is our number one priority. We do not sacrifice guest satisfaction; rather we enhance it with our environmentally friendly resort programs.

What is a Green Roof?
We just completed the installation of our Green Roof this June. The installation took 1/2 a day, but the process was over a year in planning. The green roof lies upon the flat roof area between the lobby of the hotel and Charlie's Restaurant. It creates a pleasant view of Mirror Lake both from Main Street and the outdoor deck of the restaurant.

What is a Green Roof you ask? A Green Roof is a living roof. It is a roof literally covered with soil and plants to create a living breathing space. The benefits are many. In addition to looking beautiful, it nearly doubles the life of the roof underneath it. It creates energy savings by acting as a super insulator, keeping the building warm in the winter and cool in the summer. It also acts as a storm water management system, catching pollutants as they drain off the roof. This is especially important for us since we are located directly on the lake. The Oxygen released by the plants will help the hotel reduce its carbon footprint. We are growing local plant & herb species. The herbs will be used by Charlie's in their meal preparation. Hopefully it will also create a nice environment for birds and insects.
Thank You Guests for Recycling!
We began our in-room recycling program in June of 2007. It was received with a resounding YES! We have had more than 85% of our guests participate in the program during their stays. Since the programs inception we have more than doubled the amount of recycling this resort sends out. That means that the amount of garbage that is sent to the landfills has been seriously reduced. Last year we recycled 486 Cubic Yards of garbage. How much is 486 cubic yards? Let us give you a visual:

Some Facts about the Adirondack Park
The Adirondack Park was created in 1892 by the State of New York. Today the Park is the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States, greater in size than Yellowstone, Everglades, Glacier, and Grand Canyon National Park combined.
The Park encompasses approximately 6 million acres, nearly half of which belongs to all the people of New York State and is constitutionally protected to remain "forever wild" forest preserve. It is roughly the same size as the state of Vermont to the east.
Adirondack State Park covers a fifth of New York State. 2,000 peaks lie within its folds, 100 taller than 3,000 feet. Two peaks, Marcy and Algonquin, are higher than 5,000 feet.
The park supports 500,000 acres of true old growth forest. Out of this, 200,000 acres have never been logged. This leaves a lot of area for recreation and an active lifestyle that is hard to find anywhere else in the country.
The Golden Arrow is proud to work with & support the Adirondack Council.
This year our Christmas gift for our Holiday Visitors is a beautiful set of note cards purchased from the Adirondack Council. Those moneys go directly to helping preserve the wild nature of the Adirondack Park.
The Adirondack Council is the leading voice for
Adirondack conservation. The
Adirondack
Park is the largest park in the contiguous
United States. Its wild, natural beauty is a sanctuary for wildlife and people in today's world. We are showing the world how people and nature can thrive together, keeping the
