The Adirondack Park
Wild and civilized by turns, the Adirondacks are an immense blue and green space in which to relax, play and plot an adventure. This region in Northern New York contains 3,000 ponds and lakes, 2,000 miles of hiking trails, more four-star resorts than any other destination in the state, nearly 100 campgrounds and, of course, the Adirondack Mountains.

The Adirondack Mountains of New York are a haven for outdoor recreation of all kinds. Hike the nation's largest hiking trail system, with destinations ranging from mountain summits to isolated waterfalls to forest glades. Canoe, kayak, swim and fish our 3,000 ponds and lakes and 1,500 miles of rivers.
The Adirondack Region of Northern New York includes the 6 million-acre Adirondack Park. The region is best known for its mountains (including the highest peaks in New York, Mount Marcy) and lakes (more shoreline than Vermont and New Hampshire combined). The Adirondacks are home to black bears, white tailed deer, common loons, mergansers, bald eagles, beavers, coyotes, fishers, bobcats, brook and lake trout, land-locked salmon and more.

Some Facts about the Adirondack Park
The Adirondack Park was created in 1892 by the State of New York. Today the Park is the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States, greater in size than Yellowstone, Everglades, Glacier, and Grand Canyon National Park combined.

The Park encompasses approximately 6 million acres, nearly half of which belongs to all the people of New York State and is constitutionally protected to remain "forever wild" forest preserve. It is roughly the same size as the state of Vermont to the east.

Adirondack State Park covers a fifth of New York State. 2,000 peaks lie within its folds, 100 taller than 3,000 feet. Two peaks, Marcy and Algonquin, are higher than 5,000 feet.

The park supports 500,000 acres of true old growth forest. Out of this, 200,000 acres have never been logged.

The Golden Arrow Lakeside Resort is situated right in the heart of the Adirondacks. Outdoor Recreation abounds in the Adirondacks.  The Golden Arrow is the perfect launching point for outdoor adventure in the Adirondack Mountains.
