During the 1980 Winter Olympics, the fledgling USA Men's Hockey team beat the heavily favored Soviet Union Team. Team USA scored in the last 5 seconds of the game..."Do You Believe in Miracles?!!"

The defeat of the Soviets has been touted as the greatest sports moment of the 20th century! The very rink where it all happened has been renamed after the Coach of that wondrous team...The Herb Brooks Arena.

The Herb Brooks arena, along with the other 2 pads of ice are now used to host many different hockey games and other events, all year long. Since the 1980's, the Lake Placid Olympic Center has been a nationally recognized center for ice hockey hosting year-round Can Am tournaments, CHE tournaments & schools, USA Hockey Men's and Women's training camps and numerous international events. Lake Placid locals also have a strong hockey program. The USA Hockey Women's National Team - silver medal winners in the 2002 Winter Olympic Games in Salt Lake City- call the Lake Placid Olympic Center home. The Olympic Center is also base camp for the NHL NY Islanders pre-season training camp.
