Summer Season

Summer in Lake Placid is one of the busiest times of year.  Most of the summer residents & second home owners return to the area more than doubling the population.  Visitors also flock to the area over these months for the beautiful weather & many exciting events that take place.  The Lake Placid & I Love New York Horse shows mark the official start of the summer season at the end of June.  Home to the Lake Placid IronMan competition for the past decade, thousands of competitors infect the town with Iron-mania in the second half of July.  Rugby & Lacrosse competitions dominate August.  There are tons of other events taking place such as the I Love BBQ festival in July, the free sinfonietta concerts, the weekly Mini-Triathlons & the Lake Placid Marathon in June.

Fall Foliage
Early September - November
Average Temperature: 45-60 degrees                               Average Precipitation: 3.7 inches per month
Fall brings with it a dramatic display of color & light.   This is the best season for hiking & exploring the wilderness surrounding Lake Placid.  Temperatures are mild & the majority of the summer crowds are gone.  If you can travel midweek, prices drop dramatically & the area is yours to explore.  The Lake Placid Half Marathon & Whiteface Uphill races lour athletes.  Bikers tour miles of beautiful winding mountain roads.  Golfers play marathon rounds on 4 local courses.  As October wains & the leaves fall, hockey dominates the calendar.  These tournaments & schools take place in the Olympic Arena in the heart of downtown Lake Placid.  Stars On Ice is a Thanksgiving Weekend Tradition!

Winter Wonderland
December through April
Average Temperature: 10 -30 degrees                               Average Precipitation: 2.6 inches per month
Snowfall brings all of the hard core skiers & riders to Whiteface Mountain.  Although it is best known as the mountain with the highest vertical drop East of the Mississippi, don't let its tough reputation fool you.  Whiteface has a gentle side as well with one of the best Kids Campuses in the US & tons of terrain for beginner & intermediate skiers.  All sorts of World Cup events are held at the various Olympic Venues including the Ski Jump, Whiteface & the Bobsled/Luge Track.  Mirror Lake is transformed into a frozen playground for winter activity as pond hockey games, cross country skiers & dogsled rides dominate the landscape.  Back country skiers, ice climbers & snowshoers have 6 million acres to discover.  The Village of Lake Placid is a picturesque mountain town with delectable restaurants, amazing shopping & incredible nightlife.  Visitors find themselves transported to a simpler time of warm spirits & good friends.

Spring Fever
April through June
Average Temperature: 30-60 degrees                               Average Precipitation: 3 inches per month

Spring Fever does not hit anywhere harder that it hits in Lake Placid.  By the time April comes along, locals are ready to shake the snow off & put their skis away.  Summer is around the corner, so everyone is gearing up for the busy season.  Hockey again dominates the calendar filling the Olympic Center most weekends.  Fly Fishing & river rafting are very popular events in the Spring.
