9th Annual Wilmington Festival of Colors

Lake Placid/North Elba Half Marathon
At: Start at Olympic Speed Skating Oval and End at North Elba Show Grounds -
Time: 9:00am - 4:00pm
42nd Annual Running of the Original Lake Placid/North Elba Half Marathon Saturday, September 08, 2012 in Lake Placid, NY 0900 Start. Race Course is a point to point route starting at the Olympic Speed Skating Ovel in the village of Lake Placid, goes north through the center if Lake Placid's business district. The runners then head south by the Olympic Ski Jumps and onto a flat portion of River road, following the river. This out and back portion of the course is a popular running road for multiple races including the Lake Placid Ironman. The race finishes at the North Elba Horse Show Grounds. All advanced registered runners will recieve a commemorative t-shirt, and finishers a special medal.

A Taste of Local Food Festival
At: Adirondack History Center Museum-7590 Court St., Elizabethtown, NY -

As a kick-off to Adirondack Harvest Week, the Adirondack History Center Museum is hosting A Taste of Local Food Festival on Saturday, September 15 from 11:00am – 2:30pm. Restaurants, chefs and culinary artists are invited to showcase their favorite appetizers, entrees, desserts or other prepared items featuring local foods. A variety of small portions of selected food are to be served at the Food Festival. The event is open free to the public with tickets to be sold for $1.00 and used to pay for the tastings. The Museum also is free and open to the public displaying the award winning Worked/Wild exhibition, the Raging River Exhibit, the new Cabin by the Creek exhibit and an updated Adirondack Fire Tower exhibit. Mountain Lake PBS and Adirondack Harvest documentary Small Farm Rising is being shown in the Worked/Wild exhibition room. Adirondack Harvest and other exhibitors offer information about local food growers, food preservation and canning, community gardens, and garden resources. Balloons, music and other fun activities are available for families to enjoy

Cedarlands Fall Paddle and Hike with Broadwing Adventures
At: The Wild Center, Tupper Lake, NY -
Time: 8:30am - 5:00pm
In partnership with The Wild Center, the veteran guides from Broadwing Adventures will lead you on this one day paddling trip of discovery and exploration in a little known corner of the Adirondacks. On your guided exploration you will learn about the history, ecology and conservation of the Cedarlands. This paddle/hike is on lands that are part of the Cedarlands Boy Scout Camp, a property with restricted summer access. Most summer visitors to the Adirondacks do not have the opportunity to travel here. During this full day trip, you will enjoy at least 3 miles of paddling on Mud Pond and McRorie Lake, have some short canoe carries, and hike 0.8 mile up Mud Pond Mountain. The views from Mud Pond Mountain look to the northwest along the expanse of Long Lake and to the summits of the Western High Peaks, a view rarely seen by others.

5th Annual Great Adirondack Rutabaga Festival
At: Marcy Field-3 Sisco St., Keene, NY -

The Fifth Annual Great Adirondack Rutabaga Festival, sponsored by Adirondack Harvest, The Adirondack Farmers Market Cooperative, The Fallen Arch, the Town of Keene and more will be held at Marcy Field in the town of Keene. The festivities begin with a 5K Rutabaga Run across flat terrain at 9am. Runner registration begins at 8am or register online at active.com or the Adirondack Harvest website. All entries in the biggest rutabaga contest must be registered by 10am. Chefs from regional restaurants will begin serving samples of their favorite rutabaga dishes by 11am in the food tent. Live music with The Greenbeans, and entertainment plus ongoing events including fetch-a-'baga for the dogs, children's games, displays and educational exhibits, and the coronation of the 2012 Rutabaga King and Queen. Running concurrently, the Keene Farmers Market will offer an array of fruits, meats, baked goods and vegetables. Join us to celebrate this wonderful root crop and the people who grow this and other crops that enhance our health and please our palates.

Make your guess then return to the high school to figure out who it really is! If you guessed right your name with be put into a drawing for lots of fun prizes!
