Lake Placid Loppet
At: Olympic Sports Complex Cross Country Ski Trails - Time: 12:00am - 12:00am
The Lake Placid Loppet is one of the best events of its kind in the country. Over the past 30 years, thousands of skiers have enjoyed skiing and racing on the challenging Mt. Van Hoevenberg trails at the Olympic Sports Complex. The Lake Placid Loppet is conducted by the Olympic Regional Development Authority on the Olympic Sports Complex Cross Country Ski Trails. The Loppet and Kort-Loppet run on a slightly modified version of the 50km course constructed for the 1980 Winter Olympics making it one of the most challenging citizen races in the world. Skiers should consider carefully whether to enter the 25km or 50km event.
Adirondack Wind Ensemble Concert
At: Lake Placid Center for the Arts, 17 Algonquin Drive, Lake Placid, NY 12946 - Time: 4:00pm - 5:00pm
The Adirondack Wind Ensemble, under the direction of Daniel Gordon, will perform a program of chamber music for winds entitled “Classical and Neo-Classical” for its annual winter concerts. The Classical work is Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Serenade No. 11, K. 375; the Neo-Classical work is Igor Stravinsky’s Octet. Both pieces are considered masterpieces of their respective eras.The Adirondack Wind Ensemble is a professional musical ensemble of wind and percussion instruments. Its performers consist primarily of music educators from around the North Country. The group is dedicated to bringing the highest quality wind and percussion music to the Adirondack region.

The concerts will take place at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts on Saturday, January 26 at 4pm, and at Giltz Auditorium on the SUNY Plattsburgh campus on Sunday, January 27 at 2pm. Tickets are $10 general admission. All students are free.

Saranac Lake Winter Carnival

The Saranac Lake Winter Carnival, Feb. 1-10, 2013 is the longest-running event of its kind in the eastern U.S. Now celebrating its 116th anniversary, the Carnival began as a one-day event to break the monotony of the long Adirondack winter and has grown into a 10-day festival that includes sports, dances, performances, two parades and two sets of spectacular fireworks above the world-famous Ice Palace. Over the years, the Carnival has retained the warmth, charm and camaraderie of a community celebration. This year's theme is "Under the Sea."
