Adirondack Activities for Every Age & Every Season
Welcome to Our Winter Wonderland!
Snowfall brings skiers and riders to Whiteface Mountain. Although it is best known as the mountain with the highest vertical drop east of the Mississippi, don't let its tough reputation fool you. Whiteface has a gentle side as well with one of the best Kid’s Campuses in the nation and plenty of terrain for beginner and intermediate skiers. All sorts of World Cup events are held at various Olympic venues including the Ski Jump, Whiteface and the Bobsled/Luge Track. Mirror Lake is transformed into a frozen playground for winter activity such as pond hockey games, cross country skiers and dogsled rides. Back country skiers, ice climbers and snowshoers have six million acres to discover. The Village of Lake Placid is a picturesque mountain town with delectable restaurants, amazing shopping and incredible nightlife. You’ll find yourself transported to a simpler time of warm spirits and good friends.
By the time April comes along, locals are ready to shake the snow off and put their skis away. Summer is right around the corner. Hockey again dominates the calendar filling the Olympic Center on most weekends. Fly fishing and river rafting are very popular events in the spring.

Summer in Lake Placid is one of the busiest times of year. Most of the summer residents and home owners return to the area, more than doubling the population. Visitors also flock to the area over these months for the beautiful weather and many exciting events that take place. The Lake Placid and I Love New York Horse shows mark the official start of the summer season at the end of June. For the past decade, the Lake Placid IronMan competition draws thousands of competitors with Iron-mania in the second half of July. Rugby and lacrosse competitions dominate August. Other events include the I Love BBQ festival in July, the free sinfonietta concerts, the weekly Mini-Triathlons and the Lake Placid Marathon in June.
Fall brings with it a dramatic display of color and light. This is the best season for hiking and exploring the Lake Placid wilderness. Temperatures are mild and the majority of the summer crowds have gone. The Lake Placid Half Marathon and Whiteface Uphill races lure athletes. Bikers tour miles of beautiful winding mountain roads. Golfers play marathon rounds on four local courses. As October wanes and the leaves fall, hockey dominates the area. Tournaments and school games take place at the Olympic Arena in the heart of downtown Lake Placid. In addition, Stars on Ice is a Thanksgiving Weekend tradition!
