Our family loves to travel. But with airfares being so expensive, we've tried to come up with places to visit that we can drive to from northern New Jersey. While researching our trip in the spring of 2010, we were looking for a place where we could enjoy nature--hiking, swimming, natural wonders--with entertaining a very active, sporty 6-year-old boy. We decided on Lake Placid since it's only a 5-hour drive for us. We were so happy we decided to visit the area, and even happier about our choice of the Golden Arrow. Our son loved jumping off the dock into the lake. The Olympic Center nearby provided lots of entertainment for us as well, with being able to watch the women's hockey team and aspiring figure skaters. We drove to all the local Olympic sites, walked down the bobsled run, and enjoyed a wonderful day Rainbow Falls, among other adventures. Oh, and of course going up to the top of Whiteface and rafting down the Ausable River at Ausable Chasm, too. The town of Lake Placid is so charming, and we were really happy with all the choices for dining and shopping. We'll definitely visit again--maybe in the winter next time!
