Mirror Lake Memories

The West Family - August 2011

It’s not every day that a person asks someone if they would like to do a “Triple Dog Dare”!  But two summers ago, I was asked by the Golden Arrow if I would like to do one.  My attachment to Mirror Lake had caught their interest.  It all started several years ago with my love for swimming in the lake.  I knew that many folks compete in “triathlons” and “The Ironman” in Mirror Lake, but I wanted something non-competitive.  So one day while at the ocean I bought a bright yellow boogie board and this became my Mirror Lake toy.   Like a child looks forward to “playtime” I look forward to “my swim”!  Everyday while on vacationI take my board, put it in the water, take a moment to reflect  (and to get use to the cool water lapping at my feet!) then I ease down onto the board and off I go! For an hour and a half-it’s just me, my thoughts, and heaven on earth, as I swim the two mile plus perimeter around the lake.  And during this swim I drink in the most breathtaking scenery imaginable!  I take in the shoreline and all the unique homes; folks wave and call from boats and land; the water splashes (depending on the day and the winds) and I am so alive!  The smells from town fill the air and as I paddle along I dream of all their flavors!  I listen and seek the mysterious loon that sails eloquently about.  And my eyes fix upon the domineering Whiteface Mountain and the smaller foothills that surround the lake.  And I am at one with nature and all its magnificence.  I dare you to enjoy my adventure—in fact, I “Triple Dog Dare” you!

I sat beneath a weathered birch

Watched the morning fog give way

Listened to a lonesome loon

Greet the start of a new day

Solitude from the mountain peaks

Touching those that come in search

A peace that rises from the lake

Is time spent in natures church

My husband, Dan and I would like to thank you so very much for the lovely bag filled with wonderful "items" to make our stay and trip home enjoyable. We found our return trip to the Golden Arrow, after 40 years of marriage, as enjoyable as in 1972! The town in certainly lovely, our room, truly special, and everyone at the front desk, hospitable and gracious! Thank you again!

Sincerely, Linda F.

"This place is one of the friendliest I have ever been to. After a 5 hour drive from NYC I got in late, was tired and just wanted to go to bed. The nice man behind the desk could not have made it easier for me to check in and get to my room to the bed he could see I was dying for.

The next morning after a huge cheap breakfast at the restaurant, the girl at the desk helped me plan out my whole trip telling my what to do and more importantly what not to do. She also filled me in on some local secrets. The staff there is the best resource you can find and they are just dying to make your stay the best."

What did you like most about Golden Arrow?: This was first stay in the area and I was fortunate to be accompanied by my sister and her husband who's been coming to Golden Arrow with a Westinghouse(now Northrop Grumman) contigent  for a long time. The hotel has easy access parking, located downtown close to shops, employees helpful, beautiful views from our rooms, main lodge sitting area is spacious & great views, relaxing hot tubs & pool, you couldn't find a bad meal in their restaurant, except for my roommates snoring the rooms were quiet. Make you way to Saranac Lake for their  Ice Castle. Make time I believe on Wednesdays for the toboggon ride it was a blast, my sister, niece and I closed it down...I glade I took some video to remember the great time we had as we slid down and across frozen Mirror Lake. I can't wait to go back and visit the same and new attractions. Oh, by the way Whiteface is fantastic.

"Location is fabulous, short walk to every restaurant, Olympic attraction and the movie theatre. We skiied Whiteface and coming back to the underground garage and warming up with cocoa and cookies in the lobby was very welcoming. When we checked out my daughter left her teddy in the room. They found it, called us and then Fed Ex'd the bear to us. They didnt have to go the extra mile but they did. We cant wait to return"

The hotel property is great. The staff is great as well. The location is awesome. Their parking garage, which I didn't even know they had, as it's hidden under the building, is very convenient.

I recently had the pleasure of a short stay in your hotel with two other realtors from Canada. We couldn’t say enough about the tremendous service we received from the time we checked in until we left ! Your staff is wonderful.

I wanted to go out to take a bobsled run on Wednesday and when they phoned the cab company they were told there was no taxis available. They immediately said they would get me a ride and arrange to have me picked up  !  That was way above and beyond my expectations.

We will definitely be staying at the Golden Arrow and so will our friends. We all ski and ride Harleys so we are year round customers.

Congratulations on running a first class establishment.

Best regards,

murray
