Free Summer Events & Local Favorites
Songs at Mirror Lake
Held Tuesday evenings throughout the summer, Songs at Mirror Lake brings free live music to Mid’s Park with beautiful views overlooking the water. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a relaxed summer evening by the lake.
2026 Schedule: Tuesdays from 7–9 PM, June 30 through August 4.
Story Hour at The Bookstore Plus
Families visiting during the summer can stop by Monday Morning Story Hour at The Bookstore Plus, which includes a children’s story and craft activity geared toward kids ages 3 and up.
2026 Schedule: While dates for this summer have not yet been announced, the program typically runs from late June through August.
Farmers Markets
Local farmers markets are a fun way to explore the community, listen to live music, and browse Adirondack-grown produce, baked goods, and handmade products — even if you’re just walking through.
Lake Placid Farmers Market: Wednesdays from 9 AM–1 PM, July 1 through September 2 (excluding July 15 during Ironman week) at The Oval.
Saranac Lake Farmers Market: Saturdays from 9 AM–1 PM, May 16 through October 10 at Riverside Park.

Inline Skating at the Olympic Oval
Summer inline skating at the Olympic Oval is one of Lake Placid’s more unique, affordable activities. Set on the outdoor Olympic speed skating oval, it’s a fun evening activity for families, couples, or groups looking to stay active without committing to a full-day excursion.
Public skating sessions typically run from 7–9 PM during the summer season. Admission is $7 if you bring your own skates or $15 with rentals included, making it an easy and relatively inexpensive way to spend a summer night in Lake Placid.
Catch a Movie at Palace Theatre
For a low-cost evening or rainy-day activity, head to the Palace Theatre on Main Street. The historic theater regularly shows new releases and offers affordable ticket prices compared to larger movie theaters.
Tuesday night movies are shown at 7 PM and cost just $5. From Wednesday through Sunday, evening movies begin at 7 PM with tickets priced at $10 for adults and $8 for children. The theater also offers weekend matinees at 3 PM on Saturdays and Sundays for $8.
And don’t forget the movie snacks — popcorn, candy, and soda are also priced far more affordably than what you’ll typically find at larger theaters.

Every Tuesday from 6 PM until close, Lake Placid Pub & Brewery offers buy one beer, get one beer free, making it an affordable way to enjoy a local craft brew in downtown Lake Placid.
Pack a Picnic for the Cascade Lakes
Looking for a meal with a view? Pick up sandwiches, snacks, or other picnic essentials in town and head to the Cascade Lakes for a budget-friendly Adirondack lunch or dinner.
