Lake Placid is often referred to as the winter sports capital – and for good reason – there’s so much to do in the snowy months! Whether you are in to skiing, skating, or dog sled rides, here are our top picks for a fun Adirondack winter adventure!

Skyflyer Zipline

The Sky Flyer zipline offers an experience of soaring through the air like a World Class ski jumper. Soaring parallel to the ski jumps, guests will experience a similar feeling to an Olympian taking flight. And, on your way down, enjoy the unparalleled views that only the Lake Placid region can afford.

The Skyflyer Zipine requires an online reservation, which can be made on the day of arrival during the winter (availability permitting). Tickets typically go on sale by 9:00 am each day that the zipline is operational.

SkyRide Gondola

Skyride & Elevator: Wednesday – Sunday | 9am – 4pm
Elevator Only: Monday & Tuesday | 9am – 4pm

Stand alongside the ramp that ski jumpers launch themselves from before flying over the length of a football field. Explore the eight-passenger Skyride (a new, state-of-the-art pulse gondola) and glass-enclosed elevator ending at the observation deck of the K-120 meter ski jump.

Ticket(s) for the Skyride are date-specific. Please select your arrival date before checkout.

It is highly recommend that you purchase Skyride Gondola tickets in advance of your visit online.

If you have pre-purchased the Skyride online, please proceed past the ticket booth and down the hill to the parking area upon your arrival to the Olympic Jumping Complex. Head into the Intervales Lodge to access the Skyride loading area.

Wildlife Refuge

Adirondack Wildlife is a rehabilitation & education organization, whose mission is to take in, rehabilitate & whenever possible, return to the wild, injured or otherwise disabled wildlife, working with local vet & volunteers.

COVID protocols for the Refuge: If there are more than 4 of you, it’s probably best to call ahead and alert us that you’re coming, either 855-Wolf-Man, or 914-772-5983. You must wear your COVID mask. If you come with a group, and there’s more than two of you, please send one adult into the Welcome Center to register your group. All groups must register, even if you’re solo or there’s just two of you. No more than ten people at a time are allowed in the Welcome Center, and only 10 total at a time up on the Bear Viewing Deck. You must keep your six foot social distancing. Anti-bacterial soap, plastic gloves and toilet seat covers will be available, although all surfaces will be cleaned every two hours. We look forward to seeing you all again. 

Cliffside Coaster

Enjoy a scenic ride to the top of the Cliffside Coaster and learn about the inspiring Olympic history of the Lake Placid Sliding Center. Once you reach the top, you control the ride. You have the ability to go as slow or as fast as you’d like. Race your family & friends alongside the 1980 bobsled track to the bottom of the Cliffside Coaster, the longest Mountain Coaster in the USA. We promise you’ll love it so much you’ll want to race again!

Olympic Museum

Perfect for history buffs and the casually curious alike, the Olympic Museum at the Lake Placid Olympic Center walks visitors through the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics using both traditional and more modern exhibits

The Wild Center campus is closed from April 1 – April 30 for exhibit installation. They will reopen on May 1.

Reservations are limited and masks/social distancing are required.  All guests and members must have timed reservations.

Enjoy trails with free snowshoe or kicksled rentals, explore Winter Wild Walk, or drop by and say hello to the otters.

Wander into the enchanting, illuminated winter wonderland to explore the sights and sounds of Wild Lights, presented by Merrill L. Thomas, Inc.. Thousands of lights transform the campus into a twinkling, family-friendly experience that is sure to become a holiday tradition for North Country families. Guests will bask in the glow of thousands of lights as they experience, for the first time, Wild Walk after dark.  Then, stroll through Forest Music to surround yourself with immersive music and lights—curated specifically for the quarter-mile looped trail.

Wild Lights is included with regular day-time Wild Center reservations.

The lake is no longer safe to be on!

*Please pay attention to the weather – conditions can change quickly making the ice unsafe!

Here at the Golden Arrow, we keep a rink cleared off for guests to skate and play hockey. 

The lake doesn’t always have the smoothest surface, but luckily we’re just a short walk from the Olympic Oval!

The Hungry Trout is proud to offer an Adirondack Ice Fishing experience for all skill levels looking to learn new techniques, or fine-tune their existing skill set. Experienced, patient, teaching guides are eager to help their clients become more confident, and self-reliant while on the water. Fish from a spacious, heated 4 person shelter protected from the elements a short distance from the Lake Placid/Saranac Lake region! About an hour northwest of us, Titus is smaller than Whiteface, but larger than Mount Pisgah with more ski trails. Tubing is also available.

A few notes from the ski center: “Please stay outside and use our rental window if renting. We do not take rental reservations, it is first come first serve. We will collect your party’s info and get your gear ready while you potentially wait outside or in your car. Please be prepared when you arrive or be ok with gearing up in your car, we are not able to let people get suited up in the lodge. Please remember your masks and be prepared to mask up when you pass people on the trail. Ski tickets can be purchased in advance, on our website, or at our main ski shop entrance. Please send only ONE party leader in to collect or purchase tickets. We will be collecting contact tracing info for every skier.”

High Falls Gorge

Due to the Covid 19 NYS restrictions, High Falls Gorge is unable to operate during the 2020-2021 winter season.
The entire property, including the building that houses the Gift Shop, and Cafe, all trails for waterfalls and hiking
or snowshoeing are all closed October 26, 2020 – April 30, 2021.

Bobsled Experience

Due to the Covid 19, the Bobsled Experience at Mt. Van Hoevenberg will not be running for the 2020-2021 winter season
